Rudraksha Seeds - The Tears Of Lord Shiva

The seed produced by Elaeocarpus granites or commonly known as Rudraksha tree is

considered very special in Hinduism as it has divine and mystical properties. Many believe that the accessories like necklaces and bracelets which are made from these seeds are lucky, powerful and possess health and astrological benefits.

Any person who wears these beads is untouched by any sins and is protected from evil thoughts or deeds.

This comes from two words of the Sanskrit: Rudra, which is the other name of Lord Shiva and Aksha which stands for teardrops. According to mythological tales, the tree sprouted from the tears of Lord Shiva. Many ancient scriptures indicate wonderful powers from this seed like the Srimad Bhagavad, Padma Purana and Shiva Purana. According to these scriptures, they have been used by saints and sages as they journey the land for liberation and enlightenment.

Based on the medical system of Ayurvedic, wearing Rudraksha seeds have positive effects on both the nerves and the lungs and relieve the wearer from lack of concentration, palpitations, depression, anxiety and stress. They also say that it has effects on anti aging and inductive and electromagnetic properties. There are even claims from people suffering from high blood pressure that they have benefited a lot from these seeds.

These seeds are categorized on how many furrows and clefts or mukhis they have on their surface. Each of the beads has different effects and this would depend on how many mukhis they have. This is very crucial especially on the astrological viewpoint as it is believed that they please particular planets, too. Ancient scriptures state that there is a maximum of 38 mukhis but only those that are up to 14 mukhis could be generally found.

Today the Rudraksha seeds are available almost everywhere especially in stores who sell traditional medicine and even online! The seeds would come in different sizes and shapes but always make sure that you get your hands on a genuine seed. In case you are wondering how to do this, remember that the real seeds never float on the surface of water.

Even if you try boiling it for more than 6 hours, no effect will happen to it. Fake ones will disintegrate easily! Also, a good seeds does not have any breaks at the end and should have natural and well defined contours and corns.
