The water gets to above 200 degrees Fahrenheit in these machines. They use liquid shampoo that also massages the fibers deep into the carpet. The fact that much less water is used in the process cuts the rug drying time in half.

Some rugs such as fine oriental rugs, cannot withstand the process of shampooing or steaming. In those instances an air-dusting machine should be used. An air-dusting machine will literally shoot compressed air into the rug, which releases all the dirt and germs hidden underneath the fibers. The machine then sucks up all of the dust that was blown out. The method you decide to use all depends on what type of rug you have and the severity of its cleaning needs.
