Rules Of Golf

Unlike most other games, Golf is a sport that is for gentlemen and ladies

, and has a set of written etiquette that must be followed. These courtesies ensure the safety of players, fair play, and a respectful game.

Golf does not have a referee or umpire like other sports, but instead relies on its players to act in play in manner that shows integrity and consideration for other plays and for the game. The game of Golf is supposed to show courtesy, patience, good sportsmanship, and respect. In order to make sure that these standards are met, there are several courtesies that players should follow at all times.

The first is safety. When hitting the ball, players should make sure that no one is standing close by or in a position where they could be struck by the club or ball. When taking practice swing, make sure that other players will not be hit with stones, pebbles, twigs, brush, or anything else.

You should not hit the ball until all players in front of you are out of range. If maintenance and green staff are nearby, they should be warned if a ball may be coming in their direction. If a ball does head in the direction of someone, a traditional warning is done by shouting "Fore!"

There are many considerations for other players while playing Golf. When someone is about to hit their ball, other players should not disturb or distract them by moving, talking or making any unnecessary noises.

Electronic devices should not be a distraction on the course, and other players should not stand too close or directly in front or behind another player's ball or the hole.

On the putting green, players should stand out of another's line of putt, making sure that they are not a visible distraction; this includes shadows. All players should remain on or close to the putting green until all players have finished putting.

All players should keep track of their own score and the score of their partner. After each hole they should check with their partner to make sure that their scores are recorded the same and accurate.

Players on the course should keep and steady pace that is keeping up with the group ahead of them and stays ahead of the group behind. If a group is taking too long and delaying the group behind them, they should allow that group to play ahead of them so as to not disturb their pace of play.

To keep a good pace, make sure that you know which club you are going to use and have it out when approaching your ball or the tee box. When approaching the green, place you bag in an area that is out of the way and easy to grad on the way to the next hole.

If a player loses a ball, or their ball lands in an area that could be out-of-bounds, they should hit a provisional ball just in case to avoid walking all the way back to the tee box when discovering (or not discovering) its position. Do not take several minutes looking for a ball if there is a group behind you.

There are priority players on a Golf course; and those plays are the ones playing a full 18-hole round. Priority players are allowed to pass a group who is playing a shorter round so that they may finish their game in a timelier manner.

Before leaving bunkers, players should carefully rake the sand so that it is smooth of any ball divots or footprints. This ensures that future player's golf balls are not affected by you and will not land in one of your holes.

If players make and divots on the green with their ball, shoes or bag, they should repair the markings so that other player's are not affected. If any damage is done to the grass when taking a stroke or a practice swing, it should be returned and repaired.

Players should not lean on their clubs when on the green, the flagstick should be replaced after putting, and golf carts should keep a safe distance from the green to not damage the putting area.
