Runway wrongs: CU-Boulder fashion show delves into style blunders

Socks with sandals. Ugg boots. Crocs. Sweat pants. All-too revealing tight leggings.
These are some fashion faux pas that irk members of the University of Colorado's Fashion Design Student Association.
The what-not-to-wears of the world inspired these students to host a "Fashion Faux Pas" runway show Friday night in the Glenn Miller Ballroom.
"The show involves a very eclectic group of themes -- including mullets, not wearing white after Labor Day to fashion taboos," said senior Tyne Hall, president of the club. "There are 14 designers who have created their collections based off of different faux pas in society.'"

Hall said the show will have more than 50 CU student models walking the runway in handcrafted student designs.
Sophomore designer Taylor Fraser said the show isn't all about crazy "Lady Gaga-esque" blunders. She took a different route by creating six versions of the little black dress.
"I want to get away from the faux pas," Fraser said. "You can never go wrong with a little black dress. My collection is really classy and really interesting. It's very Aubrey Hepburn. The great thing about the little black dress is that you can wear it at any point in history and still look classic."
Some designers delved into the literal translation of a faux pas, with mismatched pieces -- just as little girls dive into closets and dress themselves in different patterns, Hall said.
"There will also be a social portion of the show that follows more of a gender-based faux pas," Hall said. "It will be looking into sexism and how society views women."
Hall explores this subject with her collection, celebrating women and basing her designs on how society views femininity.
"It is based on the idea that the woman is a faux pas in society," Hall said. "It will be a progression of a little girl to a grown woman. I went to the 1920s for inspiration and put an oriental influence into the design with some draping, scalloped lines, silhouettes and a Chinese mandarin collar."
Sophomore Karyssa Cox is designing five pieces for the show with her style that is developing into a signature of simple and classic pieces with some flair that "pops."
