Rural Development In India

Mahatma Gandhi rightly said, "India lives in its villages"

. A research* into the demographics of the country reveals that over 72% of India's population

still lives in villages and small towns and in poor socio-economic conditions. Since India's Independence, concerted efforts have been undertaken to improve

the infrastructure and promote development in the rural pockets of the country. However, rural development includes not just economic betterment but also

social transformation with particular emphasis on educational facilities to bridge the rural-urban divide.

Education plays a pivotal role in achieving development and sustainable livelihoods in a competitive economic environment. Higher educational levels

contribute to local economic development in several ways. Thus, educational initiatives and programs are designed by various organizations to promote

literacy and develop skills amongst the poorer sections of the society.

Bharti Foundation is one such organization committed to providing free quality education to the underprivileged children of India, with a special focus on

the girl child, through its various programs at the primary and higher education level, primarily through the Satya Bharti School Program. Bharti Foundation

was established in 2000 with a vision "To help underprivileged children and young people of our country realize their potential". In addition, Bharti

Foundation will also undertake initiatives to promote entrepreneurship amongst students through its Senior Secondary Schools. Each of the programs at Bharti

Foundation are designed keeping in mind the emerging educational trends and opportunities. More information about Bharti Foundation and its programs can be

found on its website.
