If your goal is to increase traffic, then start by publishing a search engine optimized, interesting, and entertaining blog that your target audience will love to read and share with others via their social networks. Write articles that offer tips and insights. Write articles that can engage readers and leave them with tasty morsels of intriguing information for them to talk about and share with others. Depending on your market and your product or services, tailor your articles to be relevant for your audience. You should post at least once a week, with at least 400 words per article.

Also, the links coming in from YouTube helps tremendously with SEO. So, be sure to sign up for a YouTube and a Vimeo account and start posting videos that you can then bring into your blog. Your blog should also have free offers or contests to stimulate traffic. Have a sign-up form to win a certain this-and-that or receive a sample in the mail. It's a great way to work up your email list for, you guessed it email marketing.
Email marketing can be effective when you send an occasional newsletter. Content can be similar to your blog tips, tricks, specials, etc. But it's an important tool in your website traffic strategy toolbox. There are several good email marketing sites that I can recommend, such as Mail Chimp, Mailer Mailer, Mad Mimi, Stream Send, and Online Outbox. Most of these can be implemented into your WordPress blog quite easily and effectively. They all offer a free version to get you started.
Once you have your blog in place and you're writing interesting articles at least once a week, now it's time to turn your attention to social media.
Strategy involves a plan of action, and what comes after developing a good blog with good content is to then turn your focus to social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn... to name a handful.
Google has admitted that they do factor in links and "likes" through these social media avenues. Since that's the case, it's doubly important to participate in the social media world in order to increase search engine optimization. Marketing has changed. Long gone are the days of advertising where your ad is stuck out there to gain sales. These days, it's all about spreading the word about your product or services by "word of mouth" through social media websites.

then it's time to look to the most popular social media platforms to go where your target audience is. Join in, interact with them, build a friendship with them and then have them visit your website, like your blog, to continue the conversation. Special tip, don't hard sell in your blog. People don't like a salesman, and will run away. Instead, have your blog demonstrate your expertise and encourage your audience to spread the word.
Many companies have accounts with LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. You may be scratching your head, saying, "But, how do I find the time to keep up with all of these?"
