A green oasis in the middle of Dubai! Once unthinkable it is a reality now with the creation of Safa Park on Sheik Zayed Road in 1975

. A once neglected area was turned into a 64 ha green space, the ideal urban open space. Several upgrades resulted in three lakes, nearly 17,000 species of trees and bushes which attracts about 200 species of birds, grassy lawns covering a large area of the park, a little copse and even a hill that offers panoramic views of the surroundings. A waterfall cascades down its side falling into a large lake with fountains on which visitors can take boat rides and where children can feed the ducks.

In a highly built up city, the park also serves as a spot for recreation for everyone. Cricket players of all ages and nationalities try out their skills on the lawns during weekends. The low impact jogging track attracts runners throughout the day as do games of volleyball, tennis, basketball and soccer. A ladies garden, the children's park, tree lined walkways ideal for quiet walks and barbeque and picnic spots attract hordes of visitors during weekends.

The park even has entertainment after dark with Ferris wheel rides, a giant trampoline, bumper cars, outdoor and indoor kid's games, restaurants and fast food places. A mini train takes sightseers around the park and tandem bicycles can be hired for the same purpose.

Amazingly Safa Park is a birding hotspot in Dubai as the park's forested area and ponds attract many migrating birds in spring and autumn. A popular flea market attracts buyers and sellers every first Saturday of the month from October to May and people barter under the shade of the park's palm trees.
