As I live in quite a remote location, any day out takes careful decision and planning. In the summer holidays we found ourselves searching for a day out which was suitable for all the family. We have a diverse range of ages in our family, two older children aged 14 and 16 and one toddler aged three.
The older children originally wanted to visit a theme park but I pointed out this was not ideal for the little one as she would be two small for a lot of the rides. After much discussion we opted for a Safari Park visit.
We set off on the journey in the morning, arriving around 12.00pm which was feeding time for the lions. We had packed a picnic in order to keep the children well fed on the way there. The two boys are constantly hungry so we had made sure they were well provided for.
After paying our entry fee, we headed straight for the lion enclosure. Ensuring the doors and windows were locked, we drove slowly past a pride of lions, who were feeding on their meaty lunch. The boys took pictures from the back of the car and our toddler was, for once, lost for words. It was a wonderful experience albeit a little daunting.
We then continued on the game drive. We saw a wide range of animals all roaming free in the vast expanses of the safari park. We spotted Camels, Emus and even some Rhinos.
Before you leave the park there is the option to drive through the Monkey enclosure.A sign clearly states that any damage done to your car by the Monkeys is not the responsibility of the park. We decided to go through anyway!
The Monkeys were all over the car. At one point I counted a total of six! They stole our aerial and chewed the rubber on our windscreen wipers but it was worth it to see on the look on our children's faces.
It was a wonderful day out and I would recommend it to anyone although we nearly had to visit the Volkswagen Polo Kent garage on the way home and buy a new car!
