Many young australian learner drivers who have just finished their driving lessons from driving school take a road trip on open roads with less traffic, but there are some things you need to consider before hitting the road.

Many accidents occur on the rural or interior roads of australia and using these tips will ensure you have safe trip for you and your car.

First of all, the newbie driver needs to know his / her limitations. When a road sign states the speed limit of 100 km/h, it doesn't mean that you have to keep to that speed at all times. You can drive slower than that and keep your car in the slow lane. In the country side, driving conditions can be really tricky and can get changed quickly! The tricky conditions include local weather, potholes, the surface of the road, railway crossings and farming regions where livestock crossings are common.

It's important to drive slowly and in limit when driving on an unknown road, it's better to drive under the speed limit than to get in trouble. The road could change and become narrow, or there may be a sharp turn further down the slope that you're not aware of. Normally many drivers overtake the cars by crossing onto the other side of the road but this should only occur in an area when you can see further up the road for some distance and only where permissible by the road rules.

Whenever possible, you should drive during the day time. You must avoid driving during the rain or at night unless and until you have some experience doing this with a driving instructor or have taken a defensive driving course. Many of our outback roads have a loose surface or are simply dirt roads, so keep in mind it takes much longer to stop on a road like this. You should brake slowly and allow for a longer stopping distance.

Always remain alert by having proper rest when you feel tired or sleepy; or simply swap drivers every 2 hours. You can sense that driver is getting tired from yawning, sore eyes, boredom or feeling irritable and unable to pay attention to road signs.

It's also advisable to take few driving lessons on country roads if possible before going for long drive and always take someone who has more driving experience than yourself.
