Sales Team Motivation - Igniting and Maintaining a Spark During Sales Meetings
Ask any sales persons, one of those times they hate the most is sales meeting
, especially for sales force that spend most of the time on the field, meeting customers face to face. They even feel that times spent for meetings are times wasted because they can close sales and earn more commission if there are no meetings.
Come to think of it, there is some truth to it but when is the best time to gather and get feedbacks from all of them at one time, other than during sales meeting?
Cutting time for meeting is not the solution when sales team motivation is the problem. If the team motivation is high, they probably look forward to every meeting because they can share their achievement and valuable lesson with other team members.
Here are some tips to ignite a spark and maintain it during sales meeting:
1) Start with physical activities. Ever wonder why network marketing sales meeting is a session people will enjoy? It is not because people love seeing others getting on the stage to receive awards. They would rather have it themselves, that is for sure, but the meeting always starts with high powered activity, like dancing to fast beat. It is so energizing that the sparks keep firing all the way to the end.
2) Have a parking space. This is something I learned from my trainer. A parking space is essentially a place where you put other issue, which is off topics to what the meeting is about, and is dealt with at some other allocated time. It keeps everybody's focus and energy on the matter at hand.
3) Set ground rules. This is pretty obvious and self explanatory. You can include items like having fun in the list of rules.
4) Reinforce throughout. Have something ready to be given as goodies, like sweets or chocolates, and reward those who show positive participation, but do not forget to punish those who cross the line, according to the ground rules.
5) Active participation. Make the meetings a two way communication channel. This is not a sermon so get them involved every step of the way. And remember those sweets; reward them instantly.
6) Take a break. Human beings, unlike machines, can retain their energy level better with regular, planned break. Just make sure they stick to the ground rules and if you like, reward those who show initiatives, like coming back earlier after the break.
