Salvage Data From Your Corrupt Zip File Easily

Your Windows 2000 system has been badly affected by a virus

, and you have no backup of your data. The only option that you have is to format your hard drive, and reinstall the operating system. But what if some of your most vital files have been infected by the virus? You are apprehensive about recovering those few files. And what's more, a few of them were updated after being sent to your official email address. But you can try to use them to get back into action! But what is this? The zip file is not opening! What to do now? How to perform zip recovery? How to get back all that data?

Chances are that the zip file is not opening because of header issue in your file. All kinds of header inconsistencies, problems with data, are considered security risks as security by the WinZip application. It is also possible that Winzip may report to you that the file is corrupt.

To repair the file in such a situation, following measures may be taken:

Click Start > All Programs > Accessories. Right-click command-prompt and select Run. Choose As Administrator. In case the problem file is saved in a drive other than C drive, first change the drive.

Then type:

"X:Program FilesWinZipwzzip" -yf pqrs.zip,

where,

X represents the drive in which the pqrs.zip file is saved.

And, pqrs.zip is the non responding zip file.

The above stated command should create a new zip file, with a suffix added to its name, i.e., FIXED. This new file will have the corrections and changes made to the document. In case the problem was with the zip file, the same would be repaired. In case the problem was with some of the data, say there was some CRC error with the zipped data, or the same is corrupt, then that would not be repaired.
