The village is most famous for its traditional Korean style houses, locally known as Bukchon Hanok. This northern area of the old city is where the high class aristocrats resided. The structures of the aristocrats which came up in the Joseon Dynasty can still be seen as the traditions as well as the buildings have been preserved well.

Some of the most interesting sights to look out for are the Gyeongbokgung Palace, the Changdeokgung Palace and the Cheong Wa Dae. During the Joseon Dynasty the Gyeongbokgung was the home for the monarchs and royalty and the Changdeokgung was the secondary palace. The Cheong Wa Dae is the office of the President.

It is believed that Samcheong-dong's location is the ideal when considering the basis of Feng-Shui'. It has been thus named because it directly translated to three good' the term used to refer to the beautiful mountains, clean water and the generosity and kindness of the residents.

Today the city has attracted arty types and turned itself in to an interesting bohemia.
