Since its release in March 2010, the Samsung Galaxy S has won over its fair share of fans

. One look at its spec list, and its easy to see why this is the case.

With features such as a 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi Internet access, loads of internal storage, and a powerful combination of the Android OS (v2.1) and a 1 GHz processor, it offers the versatility to appeal to a wide range of users.

The handset measures 122.4x 64.2x 9.9 mm, in order to accommodate the 4 inch touchscreen. Its slimline profile coupled with its light weight of 119 g makes the Samsung Galaxy S a comfortable phone to hold and use with one or two hands.

The 4 inch super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen is a wonderful job of displaying photos and videos thanks to its pixel of arrangement of 480x 800 which can display up to 16M colours. A built in accelerometer sensor automatically rotates the onscreen content based upon the orientation of the phone meaning it can be viewed in both portrait and landscape forms, again making it an ideal handset for a multimedia viewing.

Both vibration and ringing alert users to incoming calls and messages, along with the added bonus of supporting MP3 and WAV files as ringtones. Handsfree communication is made simple thanks to a built in speakerphone along with a 3.5 mm headset jack. The latter can accommodate both earphones for listening to music as well as handsfree headsets.

The basic model of the Samsung Galaxy S offers a generous 8 GB of internal storage (although a 16 GB version is also available) which is sure to cater to the needs of most users. Should further storage be required, the integrated micro SD card slot can be utilised by installing a memory card of up to 32 GB, which can store thousands of music tracks, or any other file type the user may wish.

Class 12 GPRS and class 12 EDGE provides the Samsung Galaxy S with its connections to the relevant cellular networks. Access to the internet relies primarily on 3G coverage, the whereby an HSDPA connection provides speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. A faster connection can be attained thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity whenever the handset is in proximity to a wireless Internet router.

A handy 5 megapixel camera means the Samsung Galaxy S also doubles up as an effective digital camera. Thanks to its high operating pixel resolution, the resulting still images are of good quality even when zoomed in. The camera even boasts the ability to shoot HD footage in 720p 30 frames per second.

Thanks to the Android OS, there is the standard package of Google features, along with access to the Android Market. The latter is similar to the Apple AppStore in the fact that users can browse thousands of apps from many different categories and download them to the user interface.

Thanks to features such as those listed above, the Samsung Galaxy S is an extremely versatile and powerful Smartphone. With many online reviews rating it as better than an iPhone, it is easy to see why the manufacturer is onto a winner with the Samsung Galaxy S.
