Samsung Galaxy S II Set to be Highlight of the Year

Along with the HTC Desire and the Apple iPhone 4, the Samsung Galaxy S was one of the most popular handsets of 2010. Providing excellent Android functionality and a superb Super AMOLED screen the Galaxy S still remains a top seller to this day. This popularity has caused Samsung to think about releasing a number of follow up devices, with the slightly modified Galaxy SL, and also the phones true successor, the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Initial interest in the phone market at the start of 2011 had been with the LG Optimus 2X, the world's first dual core smartphone. Unveiled at February's Mobile World Congress the Galaxy S II also comes with dual core processing power, and seems to outperform LG's new flagship device in virtually every department. The Galaxy S II will feature an improved Super AMOLED Plus technology compare to the original, and will now come with a larger 4.3" dimension.

This increase in screen size has been traded with a reduction in thickness, with the Galaxy S II now being one of the thinnest smartphones at just 8.5mm. The Galaxy S II is so thin it is a wonder how Samsung managed to cram so much technological prowess into the phone's body. The Galaxy S II runs on Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Samsung's TouchWiz 3.0 interface. Multitouch input is provided thanks to the capacitive screen technology in use, and the Galaxy S II comes with a superb screen resolution and colour depth. An accelerometer and a gyro sensor are available allowing for fully 3 dimensional controls.

Among many of the areas that the Galaxy S II outperforms its rivals is with its internal storage space. Like most phones the Galaxy S II can support 32GB microSD cards, but some versions of the phone will already have 32GB of internal storage space inside. This will create a potential 64GB of storage space on the phone, although a 16GB internal version of the Galaxy S II will also be available. You can use this space to store music or videos, including videos recorded on the 8 megapixel camera. This comes with 1080p video recording and although it is not quite the first phone to do so, it does offer the best frame rate of 30fps. For music the Galaxy S II also comes with fantastic support, and even supports the playback of Flac files. With YouTube integration you can also enjoy streaming videos from online and Adobe Flash 10.1 support allows you to stream videos from other websites as well.

The Galaxy S II comes with HSDPA support that is double the current industry standard providing excellent 3G connections in most situations. Wi-Fi also comes with fantastic support with DLNA and Wi-Fi Direct both supported, allowing you to hook the Galaxy S II up to your home TV. This can also be achieved via the TV-Out connection, which comes in the form of a MHL AV Link.
