Samsung Galaxy S2 is a New Benchmark for Touchscreen Smartphones

Along with the iPhone 4 and the HTC Desire the Samsung Galaxy S was one of the biggest selling phones of 2010 and has proved to be one of the most successful smartphone devices for the Korean manufacturer since it got involved in the mobile phone industry many years ago. The Galaxy S Android device was famed for its excellent apps and games and also its fantastic 4" capacitive screen, which at the time seemed an almost ridiculous size for a phone manufacturer to opt for.

The screen has also been improved from the original's Super AMOLED technology, which was touted as one of the best screen technologies available, and now packs an even higher quality Super AMOLED Plus.

While on paper the difference between these two AMOLED technologies seems minimal, there is a significant improvement in quality and brightness in real world terms. The extra screen space makes the Galaxy S2 even more ideal for web browsing and video content, and the phone comes with great support for both. While the handset can support the playback of 1080p video the phone's 8 megapixel camera also supports the recording of 1080p video for you to enjoy at your own leisure.

With 3G and Wi-Fi on offer you can hook up to the internet whenever you feel the need and the Wi-Fi even comes with DLNA support. This, along with an additional HDMI port, allows you to view your home movies directly from the Galaxy S2 through your larger home TV. The Galaxy S2 comes with Wi-Fi Direct as well along with the ability to function as a wireless hotspot.

The new Galaxy flagship runs on Android Gingerbread and so comes with optional support for Near Field Communications and also provides excellent integration for social networks like Facebook. Traditional forms of messaging have not been neglected with this smartphone as it still offers fantastic support for threaded SMS, email and instant messaging.

The Galaxy S was a huge success for Samsung and still remains a top selling smartphone almost a year after its original release.
