Samsung Galaxy S3 - Design

It should be said straight away that everything weve seen so far for the Samsung Galaxy S3 is subject to change and everything Im typing right now could go out the window as soon as the handset is released

, but its fun to speculate right!?

Then again, we do know quite a lot about what the S3 has in store for us and it is highly unlikely that Samsung will release the amount of information they have, get everyone excited, then change it at the last minute. So in this article, I wanted to take a look at what we have heard so far from a design perspective and how seriously things are shaping up.

Many people expect the S3 to have a major design overhaul compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S2. It was actually expected that it would be making an appearance as the Mobile World Congress 2012, held in Barcelona a few weeks ago. It didnt however, which suggest that from an aesthetic point of view, Samsung arent quite done yet.

One of the design features that has so far been confirmed, is that the screen will be 4.6 inches and be capable of displaying 16:9 aspect and 1080p videos. The size is the interesting part here. With tablets really taking the market by storm, the slowly increasing size of mobile phones (and this is a large screen size by the way) suggests that mobile phones are slowly bridging the gap. Internet usage on mobile phones has vastly increased, with Facebook users now viewing their profile on a 1:1 basis between mobiles and computers. Samsung know this and with mobile shopping set to boom, a larger screen size will become the ideal buddy for any mobile shopper.

The next big topic on the design rumour lips are just what the screen will be made out of and how they will effect the overall design of the phone. With OLED technology, you get thin phones and beautiful images, but in light areas, the screen is difficult to view and can cause problems. LCD is more traditional but dated. Holds up well in all light conditions but is quite large technology these days and I just cant see Samsung being that underwhelming for their flagship product. FOLED technology sounds interesting, as the user will be able to bend the phone. Thats right, I said bend the phone. Now thats the kind of technology that gets people talking and makes people want to see, touch and share. I think its likely that will either see the creme-de-la-creme of modern beauty (LED - in some form) or something wild that just might change the face of mobile forever (bendy).

I think its pretty safe to say that no matter what Samsung do with the S3, that people are going to buy it. With Samsung stepping on the toes of Apple and their iPhone, this is the one product that they know they need to get right and theyll do all the research they possibly can to make a logical decision. With loads of new and secondhand S3s soon to be flooding the market, you might have a hard time finding one that is locked to your network. It simply removes the network lock placed on the phone, so you can then stick any SIM card in the phone that you want.
