Samsung Takes Tablets To A New Galaxy

Samsung is the latest electronics company that is making a move into the new world of touchscreen tablets

. Following the success of the Apple iPad many electronics and mobile phone manufacturers have been keen to emulate this game-changing phenomenon by introducing their own take on this new technology. Samsung's effort, the Galaxy Tab, looks to be one of the most interesting devices on show and is particularly noteworthy for its more pocketable dimensions.

It seems that Samsung have taken note of the criticism levelled against the iPad and have sought to avoid these weaknesses in their own tablet. First of all, the iPad was criticised for not including a camera (although a separate connectable camera is available). Samsung have thought ahead and not only included a camera but thrown in a second one for good measure. The front facing camera can be used to make video calls over high speed networks while the secondary camera opens up a whole new world of features.

The most interesting of these is augmented reality (AR). As an example of some of the AR technology available, you can hold the Galaxy Tab up in front of you and it can point out local places of interest, restaurants or hotels by overlaying graphical information onto the camera. This, combined with pre-existing map applications, will completely transform the way people negotiate their way around unfamiliar towns.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is excellent device for reading electronic material and is one of the best eReaders in existence. As well as allowing you to read eBooks you can also read online magazines and newspapers. One of the reasons that the Galaxy Tab excels in this area is that its size is very similar to a standard paperback, making it feel automatically comfortable to any avid reader.

The Galaxy Tab runs on the latest version of Google Android which will give it instant appeal to the increasing number the operating system's fanatical supporters. The OS has been slightly modified for use with a tablet device and so may offer a slightly different experience to people familiar with Android phones. However, it still provides access to Android Market where there is a plethora of great games and apps available. There are also multiple homescreens available as well as access to all of the best Google services including Gmail. The Galaxy Tab also features Microsoft ActiveSync making it a perfect device for all professionals on the move.

At the time of its release the iPad was marketed as the best way to surf the web but the Galaxy Tab offers a much richer experience in this arena, primarily due to its support for Adobe Flash. A large percentage of the internet uses Flash and this is not going to change any time soon, so to make the most of the internet Flash support is essential.

With 3G and Wi-Fi support you can gain access to high speed networks virtually anywhere, allowing you to surf the web or make video calls to friends and associates with minimal hassle. The Galaxy Tab offers many features that provide it with an edge over other tablet devices. The most noticeable features that set it above the game include its dual cameras and Flash support. The Galaxy Tab will hit markets across the globe later this year and, all things considered, it should be a success of galactic proportions.
