Samsung plans to update the processor 1GHz announces dual core Cortex A9 Orion
release in a little more fact filled in the press than LG beating in the chest on
Tegra 2 Samsung has revealed its next-gen mobile plans which include dual-core Cortex A8 update, as found in the rather nice Samsung Galaxy S.
A9 Samsung says will be five times the 3D graphics processing in the current generation of processors will Hummingbird 1080p video recording and playback, and many others. We do not have pictures A9 Orion, so here is a gay couple is excited about the Samsung washing machine:
Samsung says will be ready Cortex A9 for testing in Q4, and it will be released for mass production of the first half of 2011. Just in time for the next update. Heres a press release through Engadget .
Samsung launches high performance, low power consumption Dual CORTEXTM A9 applications processor for mobile devices
Taipei , Taiwan Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced semiconductor solutions, today unveiled its new 1GHz ARM -based dual-core CORTEXTM A9 application processor, code-named Orion for advanced mobile applications. OEM Device programmers now have a powerful dual processor platform is designed specifically for high-performance, low-power mobile applications, including tablets, netbooks and smartphones. The new Samsung processor, will be presented at the seventh year of Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum held in Taiwan at the Taipei Westin Hotel.
Customers are demanding the full use of the network without compromising on the road, said Dojun Rhee, vice president of marketing, System LSI Division, Samsung Electronics. Given this trend, designers need a platform for mobile applications processor, which provides excellent performance to handle multimedia, processor speed, memory bandwidth and abundant. The latest Samsung dual-use core processor is designed specifically to meet the quality requirements while maintaining a long life battery.
Samsung Designed using 45 nanometer process technology low-power , Orion is a pair of 1GHz ARM Cortex A9, each of which is equipped with a 32KB data cache and 32KB instruction cache. Samsung also 1MB L2 cache processor to optimize performance and ensure fast switching of context in a multitasking environment. In addition, the memory interface and bus architecture of Orion supports data intensive multimedia applications, including full HD video and high-speed 3D gaming performance.
new processorSamsung proposal contains a rich portfolio of advanced multimedia features, implemented by hardware accelerators, such as the video encoder / video decoder that supports 30 frames per second playback and recording in Full HD 1080p. Using the extended graphics processing unit(GPU), the new processors are capable of 5 times the 3D graphics performance over the previous generation of processors from Samsung.
For design flexibility and reduce system BOM costs, Orion integrates a set of interfaces commonly used in portable devices to configure peripheral features. For example, in this processor, customers can choose from different types of memory, including NAND flash moviNANDTM, SSD or HDD providing both SATA and interfaces eMMC. Customers can also choose the appropriate memory options, including low power LPDDR2 or DDR3, which is commonly used for high performance. In addition, global positioning system(GPS) processor bandwidth of the receiver is built into the processor without any problem support location-based services(LBS), which is important in many new mobile applications.
Orion has on board a native triple-display controller architecture compliments of multi-tasking and multiple display. Mobile phone using the Orion processor can simultaneously handle two devices on the screens during the third drive an external display, such as a TV or monitor, the on-chip HDMI 1.3a.
Orion is designed to support a package on package(POP) memory stacking to reduce emissions. Derivative of Orion, which is housed in a standalone package with 0.8mm ball pitch, is also available.
New Dual-CoreSamsung applications processor, the Orion, will be available to selected customers in the fourth quarter of 2010 and is scheduled for mass production in the first half of 2011.
