Samuel Learns to Yell and Tell

Quite a frustrating thought to see our world through this book turning putrid

. Not long ago child sexual molestation was a nonissue. However, changes have turned our world around and numerous publications have several faces of child sexual predators shown to the public. As aptly stated in the concluding letter to parents, we want to be proactive in protecting our children.

The 35-pages full color book shows how a mother forewarns her son concerning how five sexual corruptions will be indicated in his future life. First is based on how a playmate suggests to Samuel on seeing each other's private. The mother would then say, "Now you know my little Samuel This is truly bad. Even if he is your friend it makes God very sad. So, I ask you now, Samuel son, Will you think it's all in fun? Will you stay, or will you run?" For Samuel, he will run!

The second is clearly the most serious of the five. It comes from a friend or family member who wins the trust of the family but secretly wants to sexually molest Samuel in some way and then convince him not to tell. "Will you do just as he says and keep his evil secret? or will you run and tell and yell? Will you be brave, my Samuel?" The objective is to expose the malicious act, in the same way conveyed in the concluding letter to parents, "A child predator loses his power when he loses his cover."

An invitation to pornography makes the third. The fourth is similar to the first except that the boy is older and threatens Samuel if he tells. The last focuses on the impious imaginations that Samuel might be encountering in the future. In all cases, the mother advised Samuel to always inform his parents. He must disregard any threat and not resort to secrets between friends.

In this colorful book, Samuel is neither informed on the reasons why these actions are wrong nor on what he needs to do about the person involved. He is simply taught how to identify a bad situation and how to respond, by fleeing and telling his authority what happened.

The advice conversation is shown through a simple poem with a loose rhyming ruse. Full color watercolor drawings fill the pages, making even this subject interesting and attractive. A mother's love for her son is shown on how she wanted to protect him from sexual molestation that can produce a great impact to his future life. Samuel's reaction is also indicated. Samuel promised to run or yell and tell in the event any of these situations might happen.

A sensible letter to parents is written in the last two pages of the book. These pages show data on where do sexual assaults come and how to identify these perilous actions to other people. But they also warn against living in paranoia. We are not to mistrust everyone. Neither are we to avoid being friendly with children for fear we will be misunderstood. But, we still need to be more cautious and not involve ourselves in situations that are leading to suspicions. Moreover, we must allow our children be knowledgeable of these things to help them deal with these situations. Through reading this book to them every now and then will give them the idea on the possible situations as well as the response they need to do.

Sara Sue Really Learns to Yell and Tell is a sequel intended for little girls that is planned to be published. Hopefully No Greater Joy will also produce similar materials addressed to older children as well.
