If you are looking for an interesting holiday destination this summer, then why not try San Francisco? With amazing attractions such as the world famous Alcatraz and Pier 39, you will struggle to run out of things to do.

San Francisco is a hilly city in California, with beautiful views of the sea, and great shopping. Visit Union Square for Macys, Tiffany and Co, Niemen Marcus and other iconic American stores. If you are a foodie, then why not try the cheese cake factory in Macys, where you can sit outside, right by the sign and look out over the bustle of Union Square, while sampling a few of the hundreds of delectable cheesecake choices.

Alcatraz is a must see when in the city. Steeped in history, the island was originally used as army barracks, and later became the state penitentiary, home to the likes of Al Capone and other criminals who had been too badly behaved to serve in other prisons. The conditions were harsh, especially with the initial prisoners being forced to build their dwellings.

For light hearted fun, visit Pier 39. There is a lot to do here, including visiting the aquarium, the hard rock cafe and bubba Gump shrimp co, as featured in the blockbuster Forest Gump. There are lots of little boutiques and eateries here, so you can shop and dine to your heart's content.

Other attractions in the city are the Golden Gate bridge tour, a bout journey that takes you around the peninsula and under the famous bridge.

If you fancy something different, why not ask togo to the Stinking Rose, a restaurant in Little Italy that specialises in only garlic enhanced dishes, including garlic encrusted ribs, and their renowned garlic ice-cream. Try it to believe it!
