Satellite Internet, Cable or DSL Service?

Satellite Internet, Cable or DSL Service?

If you just moved and are looking into different Internet services, make sure to do you research before you make a selection. There are lots of different companies out there vying for your business, so making an informed decision can be tough, and you need to make the right one because contracts lock you in for one or even two years. So before you get cable, DSL or satellite Internet, make sure you know the basics.

If you are interested in getting a cable Internet connection in your home, you must first think about the set up fees and the set up process. Sure cable Internet is popular in homes and offices, but do you really want to have all those wires running around the outside of your house and up and down the walls and baseboards inside your home. This can be unsightly and if you have kids sometimes even dangerous. Also when the cable company comes to your home, sometimes they have to lay new wire in the ground to get you access to the network. This can require them digging up cement, marking up the street, and simply causing a mess. On top of all of this, the cable companies charge some of the highest rates to their customers and try to lock them in to two-year contracts and charge huge fees for early cancellations. In short, really look into what the cable company is offering you and what its going to cost you monetarily and time investment wise to choose a cable company as your Internet service provider.

If you aren't sold on cable Internet, you may look into DSL. DSL was popular a few years back because it offered people super fast Internet speeds that rivaled the slow dial-up that people were used to in the city. DSL quickly became the preferred Internet provider and people were very happy with the service. Some cities laid down the infrastructure to support DSL, but some did not. It was very expensive for cities to install because it requires special copper wires to be laid along side the telephone wires going into people's homes. These days DSL is not longer the main competitor to dial-up Internet and DSL has already become somewhat of yesterday's popular Internet service provider. Today people are branching out to use satellite Internet services and other wireless networks that they can subscribe to without having to deal with the complicated infrastructure systems that both cable and DSL require. So if you don't want to have to deal with all of that mess and headache, you should look into getting satellite or another wireless network for your home Internet service provider. Satellite does not only require no lines or wires to be laid in the ground, but is can be set up anywhere in the world so you don't need to worry about whether you are in range of the service provider or not. The choice is easy after you do your research.
