With all the stress life brings these days it is nice to have a way to unwind after

Soap operas have historically helped people, especially women, around the world get through their own personal strife by presenting dramatic stories full of danger, passion, and betrayal. Little did we know, there was something even more dangerously addictive- the telenovela. Telenovelas are slightly different than the North American soap. They run 5 or 6 days a week and generally for the duration of no more than150 episodes before they come to an end. The stories are intense, convoluted and captivating and often incorporate some sort of sociocultural theme such as homosexuality, racism, violence in society, rape, etc. The first telenovelas were created by Cuba, Mexico and Brazil but the craze spread to countries all over the world and now they are being churned out by countries such as Bolivia, Germany, Indonesia, Russia, even The Philippines.

The best telenovelas are currently those coming out of Colombia, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Venezuela, and of course the reining champion of telenovelas: Brazil.

Until now, it was difficult to get a hold of these television delicacies in the U.S. Thanks to satellite t.v., however, there are whole channels devoted to Brazilian programs, so you dont have to go a day without your daily dose of guilty pleasure. Not even, if you are as far way from Brazil and Chicago, Illinois!
