Sure, it may be childish but haven't you ever been in your trusty ole' paid for car and seen a new car whiz by and just for a second

, wanted it? You just knew it smelled great inside and boy was it shiny!

Of course you quickly realized that the car you drive now is perfectly fine and it is paid for. Still, it would be nice to be driving that new car and you find yourself thinking about it from time to time a little wistfully.

Before you give in to temptation, there are some ways to make the car you are currently driving feel and look more like a "new" car. Check this out before you find yourself saying yes to a new car and more debt.

Of course you would probably be just fine in your old car, it runs fine but every notice how new car ads make it all sexy to drive a new car? Maybe you just are not feeling sexy but that is a whole other story.

Clean out all the accumulated trash

If you like to keep a CD collection, store it in the glove box or in a CD carrier

Wash your car and vacuum everything out, get in all the nooks and crannies

Clean the interior including the windows and all surfaces

Clean the outside windows and don't forget the rims on your wheels

Get one of the new car scent dispensers and change it weekly

If your car runs great but the paint is worn, consider a low cost paint job, it is still cheaper than a new car payment

Now that your old car is in a new car frame of mind keep it that way with regular maintenance. It cost very little to do these things but gives a huge mental return.

It gives you a mental boost every time you look at it and you can feel good about your ability to resist the temptation to buy that shiny new car which really is just shiny new debt.

As an added benefit, you can enjoy the peace of mind that goes with knowing you did it yourself. So give your self a big pat on the back and take the ole girl for a spin!
