? Many couples have used counselors with success and saved their marriage or relationships. What you need to do is decide which ones are the best for you to use. You are going to find that there are three types of counselors. What you need to do is decide which type meets your needs.
The first is the Psy. D level counselor or PhD. These people have gone to graduate school for at least 5 years and have written a dissertation. They have also performed at least 3000 hours of supervised therapy. To be called a Clinical Psychologist, the person must have a doctorial level degree.
Another is the M.S.W. or Master of Social Work. Social workers are trained in social theory as it relates to specific situations. They can work with individual people or in institutions. Then there is the Marriage and Family Therapist known as M.S. or M.A. that work with individual or small groups. They only have 2 year degrees and at least 1500 hours of supervised therapy.
Cost wise the MSW or Marriage and Family Therapist are cheaper. The Clinical Psychologist would be the most expensive to work with. Which ever way you go, ask them about their policies so you know how they work and you know your options.
Taking advantage of counseling should help get your relationship back on track and save you from having to go through a divorce. If you find you are not happy with your counselor, move on and find another.
