Save a Tree Use a Washlet
If you havevisited Japan in recent years, you have probably seen or even sat on a washlet. They are very common at airports, hotels and restaurant restrooms all across Japan. A washlet is an electric toilet seat with a water spray wand feature for washing, used to upgrade a standard toilet.
There are several benefits of using a washlet. First, a washlet uses water to cleanse and refresh, and can significantly reduce the consumption of toilet paper. A recent study shows that in average a family of four consumes 183 rolls of toilet paper a year. This amounts to 1.3 trees. In my particular case the reduction on toilet paper usage after installing a washlet was about 90%. Now, one might argue, sure you will be saving on toilet paper but you will increment water use. Consider this, the amount of water used to manufacture a single roll of toilet paper is about 4 gallons, the average use of water for a washlet is a gallon a day. You can do the math.
The second benefit associated with the use of a washlet is that people who suffer from certain conditions like constipation, hemorrhoids, urinary infections diarrhea and feminine discomfort have experienced an improvement on their conditions with regular use of a washlet. Also, the probability of spreading diseases is diminished, as cleansing is done for you and contact with digestion waste is minimized.
Last, is that the built in features that these devices have, provide for comfort and better hygiene. The Toto Washlet S300 for example comes with a remote control to adjust the water pressure, temperature and direction. Also the seat temperature and the drying air temperature can be controlled. In addition it has a massage feature that activates a cycling nozzle motion for best washing action and is made from antibacterial plastic.
The addition of a washlet to your bathroom is good investment. Not only will you experience the comfort and freshness that cleanliness provide, but you will also be contributing to saving at least a tree a year and to conserving water.
