Ive been a business traveler for a long time now

. Sales and marketing is my game and Ive played this game all over the world. In the thousands trips Ive taken, Ive experienced all manner of delay, inconvenience, mix up and bone-head mistake. A lot of of which happen to be my fault. Having said that, it wasnt right up until I took a family journey this previous summer that I found out just how much Id been missing out on one piece of travel equipment Id never ever used or given a lot thought to.

When youre a salesman like I am, an world wide salesman at that, you quickly get into a travel structure. Once youve settled into your pattern, details rarely change. You understand what garments you have to have, you always possess the proper personal items, you understand the second you stroll into a hotel room what kind of evening its likely to be, and so forth. However, traveling together with your loved ones is a totally different thing. In comparison, its chaos! Youre no longer packing for one. You genuinely must think about other people, namely the little ones. The modest amount of that personal item is no longer sufficient to share with everyone. This, I can let you know from practical experience, can trigger disaster.

Take for instance the journey my household took to San Diego this summer. San Diego is approximately 3000 miles away from my dwelling, not an enormous distance for someone whos been all around the globe. The participants of the trip involved my family of 4: myself, my spouse, my 14 year old daughter and 8 year old son. We were headed to San Diego for my nephews wedding. However, my huge mistake happened several hours before we actually left. I, being the incredible father that I am, accepted when my son asked if he could help me pack. After several minutes of training on the right method to store the clothes in the suitcase, followed by several minutes of trial and error and strict supervision, my son had it down. I proceeded to give him all of the clothes I would need, which includes the suit I was to wear. I then gathered the proper toiletries and other personal items for the trip. A short while later we were packed into the van and on our way to the airport. Unfortunately for me, my sons packing job of my sports coat and slacks fell well short of the methods I had shown him only a short while before. This was my mistake, of course. I failed to double check things. Needless to say, once we got to California, the suit was a mess, but I didnt realize it until approximately an hour before we were to head for the wedding site. As a business traveler, I may well have just gone to the nearest retailer and bought a new suit and just expensed it. But Im somewhat tighter with my own personal money. Upon seeing the suit, my wife suggested I try using the hand held garment steamer shed brought with her. I didnt even know we owned this thing. Cynical, but without much alternative, I tried the steamer on my suit. It took some time, but I was able to renew the suit to an acceptable level. We made it to the wedding with loads of time and no person was the wiser.

Mainly because that day, Ive packed that steamer with me on each business trip. I believe Ive utilized it on every trip too. No more ironing or awaiting the hotel to deal with my clothing. I guess an old canine can learn new tricks.
