Saving Money: One Day At A Time

Saving money is a struggle for many people

Saving money is a struggle for many people. There is plenty of money which could be saved each year by following some simple day to day budget plans.

One of the best areas to start cutting costs is with food costs. We can't go without eating, but making some better decisions about how we spend our money towards food can protect working budget.

*Make a list of items needed at the grocery store and stick to it.

*Make a list of items needed at the grocery store and stick to it.

*Do not shop for groceries on an empty stomach.

*Shop the sales fliers. Take advantage of items marked down.

*Limit pre-made foods. It costs less to make it yourself.

*Bring your own lunches to work. If you go for a day trip, pack a cooler with drinks and snacks. Stopping at convenient stores are not convenient at all to your wallet.

Shopping at thrift stores, especially for children's toys and play clothes, can save a bundle. Many times you can find clothes that have never been worn with tags still on for pennies of the initial cost. Shop the sales in other chain stores. There are many of these stores who offer extra discounts when you sign up to be on their email list. Take advantage of store sales coupled with bonus specials. There are many online stores offering special sales with free shipping. Some of these online purchasing sites will give name brand products for a fraction of the original price. There are additional discounts when purchasing last year's model or used products. Don't get trapped into buying extra just because it is on sale, keep the purchases to your needed items in order to safeguard your budget.

Once you start seeing some of the savings add up into your account, take the majority of it out and into a savings account. The small portion that is left, use it to treat you. Being rewarded for a job well done is a great incentive to keep trying. Your reward could be to start saving each monthly reward in order to treat yourself to something bigger.

Get your family involved so they can help with the savings as well. Children will have a great foundation for their future spending habits when they start learning young how and why to save. Keep the conversation light but meaningful. Each family member could be assigned a savings task. Making sure lights are shut off when no one is in the room, turning battery operated toys off when not in use or keep the water from running constantly while brushing teeth are all jobs that a young child can learn to do.

Saving $10 a day from one thing or another would be bringing in an extra $3650 a year to be used in much more meaningful ways. What would you do with amount? Could you pay down or pay off some credit cards? These credit cards eat away at your money through interest payments. Bringing these balances down will only be saving you more each month and your yearly savings would me so much bigger! It takes only a few dollars a day to make a difference. If your family works together, there is more accountability and incentive with daily reminders of the good things to come.
