Saving With Coupons - It is Easy!

Everyone likes to save a buck and it is such a great feeling when you get a good deal. If you clip coupons you are already trying to save some money on your grocery bill. But did you know that you can take your grocery savings to the next level? In fact, sometimes you can even make money when you shop for food!

The key is to use your coupons in the right way. Combine them with sales and double coupon days at grocery stores and you can actually get money back. It really happens! I have made money on Kellogg's cereals and Kraft Bar-b-Que sauce just to name a few. It is really easy and it can become almost a game to see how much you can save each trip. I have had people behind me in the checkout line watching the register intently as they see my pull out my coupons. They are just as excited as I am waiting for the final total!

Many people shy away from coupons because they feel it is too much work. I used to think that too, until I stumbled upon a system that really works for me. First of all I found the forum at Pinching Your Pennies.com. People share their grocery finds and the best deals of the day. It is a great place to learn the ropes of couponing and to find the system that works best for you.

Next I found the website, grocery smarts.com. This website allows you to print out shopping lists by store based on the current sale. It will tell you if there is a coupon available for the product and the best product savings are starred.

So how do I make this work for me? Well first of all I do not clip coupons! That is right. I never cut a coupon until I am ready to use it. Why waste the time? What I do is organize the entire coupon section from the Sunday newspaper into a binder. The binder is filled with clear sheet protectors and I file each coupon insert in a sheet protector by month and coupon vendor. For example, I will put all the Red Plum coupon inserts for the month of May in one sheet protector. I will also write on the top of the first page of each coupon insert the date it came out in the paper. I will keep three months worth of coupons in the binder so as I add a new week, the earliest week is discarded.

Now this may sound like a lot of work, but it really isn't it takes me less than five minutes to organize my coupons each week. Then as I read the forums at Pinching your Pennies or print a Grocery Smarts shopping list I can find out what coupons are the best each week. For instance, the Grocery Smarts list will tell you where to locate a coupon for a specific item that is on sale. If Kellogg's cereal is on sale, the shopping list will indicate there is a Red Plum coupon that was in the 4/16 newspaper. Then I go to my binder and find the 4/16 Red Plum insert and clip the coupon. It takes me about 10 minutes to print my shopping list and find the coupons. I then put everything in another sheet protector and head to the store. The reason I put it in a sheet protector to go to the store is because then my shopping list and coupons are together. I hate it when I get home and find I forgot to use a coupon!

By using these techniques and combining them with double coupon days you can actually make money grocery shopping. Plus once you start you will find that couponing is a very fun hobby!
