Saving Your Child From Nightmares Of Sinus Problems

. This is the reason why parents are urged to save their children from developing sinus problems on their early years. Children are normally born with air-filled sinus cavities. These cavities develop as they grow and can get infected anytime at any age. More often than not, sinusitis develops during their childhood years. But the good news is there are simple steps to follow in order to save your children from acquiring this dreadful sinus problem. Listed below are the things that parents must look out in order to prevent the onset of sinus infection.

1.If you observed a greenish drainage from one nostril, then you should suspect obstruction by a foreign body- it might be small toys, or nuts. It is best not to maneuver the obstruction in any way. Have an ENT specialist remove the obstruction.

2.Teach your child to blow his nose gently or better not to blow his or her nose at all. Bacteria are spread to uninfected areas including the ears by heavy blowing. It can irritate the delicate membranes of the nasal passages as well.

3.Follow your doctors advice on the required dose and duration of medicine administration. The required dose of antibiotic must be completed so as to avoid development of drug resistant bacteria.


4.See to it that your child receives all the required immunizations.

7.Avoid stocking stuff toys and any thing that collects dust in your childs bedroom. It is more preferable if your childs room is kept as bare as possible. Avoid use of insecticides and moth flakes.

9.During cold or dry weathers, bedrooms must be moisturized. It is advisable to use pans of water for evaporation.

10.Nasal sprays containing Benzalkonium or Thimerosal must be avoided because it may irritate the nose.

11.Avoid smoking near your child.

12.Use Hepa filter instead of an ionizer for dust.

Following these guidelines can save your child from experiencing the miseries of sinusitis. Kids living in an environment free from pollutants, allergens, and irritants are more likely to live a healthier life. Moisture must be maintained in your childs environment. However moisture must be kept at not more than 50%, this is to keep off inhaling dry air form irritating your sinuses. Problem of mold growth may develop if the moisture goes beyond 50%. As a parent, you must be very vigilant in observing the signs that your child might manifest so that appropriate intervention may be carried out early on.
