Saving your marriage after youve been unfaithful is not just hard because your spouse

is horribly disappointed in you and is probably not even interested in being a party to the marriage anymore, but also because you feel terribly guilty and ashamed of yourself.

So when youre trying to save your marriage in such a situation you have to deal with your own guilt plus your spouses disappointment. Not an easy task!

Honesty

Right after an affair, the best thing for you to do, though it is probably too late, is to be as open and as honest with your spouse as you possibly can. This might take a bit of time, but youll be rest assured of one thing: your spouses trust in you will be reinforced.

That is what you need to do, because after all, no relationship can be built on the basis of mistrust. Trust is essential and if that essential commodity isnt there; there isnt any chance of you saving your marriage.

But do keep in mind that your spouse is going to take their time to heal. In fact, the period of healing might stretch to months. A lot of times, there is some residual insecurity left over after years and years, your job is to work on making your spouse feel as secure as possible and for that you need to be absolutely honest.

Marriage can survive infidelity, but only if you want it to. Also, keep asking your spouse for their feedback from time to time. This helps.

Simplicity

The best thing you can do to save your marriage is so simple, yet we make it so complex. Sometimes, all you need to do is give your spouse a heartfelt, genuine apology. After all, not only is your spouse in pain, but you are too. Make sure that you dont try to justify yourself. That will make the condition much worse and might even make it beyond repair.

Also, no matter how bad things were prior to the affair, you need to own up to the fact that it was your fault and your fault alone.
