Saving your marriage after you've been unfaithful is not just hard because your spouse is horribly disappointed in you and is probably not even interested in being a party to the marriage anymore, but also because you feel terribly guilty and ashamed of yourself.

So when you're trying to save your marriage in such a situation you have to deal with your own guilt plus your spouse's disappointment. Not an easy task!

Right after an affair, the best thing for you to do, though it is probably too late, is to be as open and as honest with your spouse as you possibly can. This might take a bit of time, but you'll be rest assured of one thing: your spouse's trust in you will be reinforced.

That is what you need to do, because after all, no relationship can be built on the basis of mistrust. Trust is essential and if that essential commodity isn't there; there isn't any chance of you saving your marriage.

The best thing you can do to save your marriage is so simple, yet we make it so complex. Sometimes, all you need to do is give your spouse a heartfelt, genuine apology. After all, not only is your spouse in pain, but you are too. Make sure that you don't try to justify yourself. That will make the condition much worse and might even make it beyond repair.

Also, no matter how bad things were prior to the affair, you need to own up to the fact that it was your fault and your fault alone.
