Saving Your Marriage After Your Husband Cheats

After your husband cheats, saving your marriage may not be the first thought that comes to mind. In fact, it may take more than a few days or even weeks to get past the shock of finding out your husband has cheated. It may be even longer before you are ready to work on actually saving your marriage.

1) Make the decision to look forward; not back. When you look at what's in front of you, it is easier to avoid potential pitfalls that might otherwise bring your marriage down.

2) Believe your marriage is worth saving to begin with. Don't hope it's worth saving. Don't question whether it's worth saving. Believe, deep down inside, that your marriage is valuable and completely worth saving despite the fact that your husband cheated. When you do that, you've won half the battle already.

3) Commit to being honest and open with your husband. You have to clear the air between the two of you or you'll never be able to fully commit to the act of saving your marriage. You have to tell your husband what is on your mind and get the pent up emotions off your chest. You also must be willing to hear what he has to say, no matter how unpleasant or uncomfortable it may be, to get things off his chest as well. Doing this allows you to both move forward with a clean slate.

4) Learn to fight for resolution rather than victory. How many times have the two of you gotten into a fight only to end up forgetting what the fight was really over in the beginning? It happens all the time in marriages. The fight goes from being about a sticky problem point in the marriage and turns into an all out war where your only concern (by both parties) is victory at all costs and you're taking no prisoners. These kinds of fights destroy marriages while fights that resolve the conflict and result in changed behavior save marriages.
