If you suffer from asthma, this stale smell of moldy carpets can become unbearable for you, and you need to get rid of the mold in the carpet as soon as possible.

A carpet gets mold not because it is dirty, but many a times there are instances when your carpet comes across water, for instance, from leaking floors, wet foot mats that are near the washroom, etc. Also, sometimes when you clean your carpet by yourself or from a professional carpet cleaner, the carpet is not properly dried and this results in the carpet remaining damp. Damp carpet is the best breeding place for yeasts and molds. You must have observed black spots on carpets or mats that are subjected to wetness. This results in the carpet getting a mildew smell, and if the problem is not taken care of, the smell becomes permanent in the room where the carpet is placed.

There are two main ways through which you can get rid of a moldy carpet either remove the moldy carpet or take care of the mold. The first option to remove the entire piece of carpet is known as the mold remediation process. Although it looks that removing the problematic carpet is the easiest way to get rid of molds, yet it is not as easy as it sounds. If the moldy carpet is not properly removed the yeast particles are absorbed by the air. This situation may become worse if you have air conditioner at home which will spread the moldy air in the house hence causing the mold to spread in every part of the house.

The second option is to clean the carpet with a good carpet cleaner that promises to get rid of carpet molds. The cleaner should also guarantee that the mold spores will not come back once the carpet has been fully cleaned. One important thing to note here is that if your carpet cleaner uses harsh chemicals, bleaches and other harmful acids to get rid of the molds, you should carry on with your search and find a better cleaner. Harmful chemicals, acids and bleaches may successfully get rid of the molds, but they can cause a lot of damage to the texture and color of your carpet fibers. They can also harm your lungs due to the chemicals they use.

It is said that prevention is better than cure. Once your carpet is mold free, try that your carpet stays as dry as possible.
