Say hello to the Mazda Mx5
The Mazda MX5 is a two seat convertible that has developed a reputation as a sporty
handling little roadster with classic styling, snappy throttle response, and very pleasing handling. In previous models Mazda has improved the acceleration and handling through a strategy of "chasing every gram", i.e. improving acceleration and handling by maximizing the low weight end of weight to horsepower ratio, but the new 2010 model features a significant power upgrade, from the original's 114 horsepower 1.6 litre, to a MZR-series multi-point fuel injected 2.0 liter four cylinder rated at 167 horsepower and 140 foot pounds of torque @5000rpm in manual transmission variants. The engine is mounted in the front, just behind the front axle for an ideal balance. The engine is very responsive to the throttle and rev happy, making for breath taking acceleration from a standing start. The transmission itself is now a six speed as opposed to the 5 of the original, with a short throw that makes it a delight to run through the gears. The quick short ratio steering in this short, compact little car turns makes it turn like a Zero fighter The five point suspension easily deals with the little bumps and dips found in most highways while keeping all 4 wheels solidly welded to the ground for excellent performance. The car has a curb weight of 2,511 pounds, features disc brakes and a fuel capacity at 12.1 gallons. EPA rated mileage is 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.
The body of the 2010 has been made wider for added comfort and security, while simultaneously multiple aerodynamic refinements have been made to the exterior that promise to obviate any increases in drag from the slight increase in width. The car is available either with a soft top, or Mazda's Power Retracting Hard Top (PHRT) which retracts in only 12 seconds and makes driving in conditions that demand the top up feel much quieter, pleasant, and secure. Exterior features include fog lights, window defogger, and power mirrors standard. Interior features include heated seats, Bose seven speaker sound system, and trip computer standard. Also standard is the always excellent quality of
