Likewise, a room with older, even shabby furnishings that has a pleasing fragrance will be comfortable and perceived as a positive place to be. The sense of smell overrides every other sense.

Scented candles allow you to create the mood and emotional content of any space. This trick is well known to realtors who often burn sugar cookie or cinnamon bun scented candles in homes they show to potential buyers. It makes the house feel like home and creates an emotional attachment. It is used in businesses to improve perception and instant recall of their brands, most famously the "new car smell" that is actually a fragrance sprayed into the car.

Well-chosen fragrances are proven to enhance moods, to relax or energize. You can use these same "tricks" in your home with fragrant, scented candles to create a space that you not only want to be in, but to be happy in.
