Generally those older than 45 years do not have Schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia Symptoms

It is very difficult to detect Schizophrenia at a young age. Symptoms include new friend circle, sleeping issues, anger and falling education results. Such symptoms are almost passed off as normal in most teens. There are certain indications, which if assessed together, can help doctors, diagnose it earlier. These indications include isolation or withdrawal from social circle, rise in strange thoughts/suspicions and family history of psychosis.

Schizophrenia symptoms can be classified into three categories:

Positive Symptoms - Symptoms in which the patient may have on - off characteristics wherein they may not be able to identify with their surroundings. The severity of this type of symptoms is medication dependant. These includes:

Hallucinations

Delusions

Confused thought process

Uncontrolled movements

Negative Symptoms unusual emotions or actions that can be easily diagnosed as depression etc. Includes:

Flat Effect (as if a lifeless drone)

Depresses outlook

Lack of initiative or consistency in new tasks

Minimal communication even on applying pressure

Poor decision making skills

Inability to focus or be attentive


Unable to process recent information and utilize it

Schizophrenia Treatment

Since the exact cause is not yet ascertained, the treatment is basically focused on eliminating symptoms, Generally atypical antipsychotics like Quetiapine (Seroquel) are prescribed in treating Schizophrenia. Quetiapine's (Seroquel)

exact mechanism of action is not certain but has proven to be a very effective medication against Schizophrenia. General dosage is once or thrice a day, as per Physician's advice.
