You will need to find a variety of people in and out of your specialty. Lawyers find it beneficial to know other lawyers. They get the advantage of law school to build their network. But in order to make a convincing defense, they may need the assistance of doctors, scientists, engineers, private detectives, and the list goes on.

It is not easy to meet people. Just ask any single woman over the age of thirty. It isn't impossible, though. The trick is to mingle with people who are also in the business of making connections.

Then, the schmoozapalooza was born. Party organizers use this fun name for a meet and greet for professionals. Similar parties in your area may have a different name, but the idea is the same. t is a small gathering over cocktails and munchies held that centrally located venues in your area. These parties are especially popular in growing urban areas. These may be held every other month.

Can I Host One?

Expect the first event you throw to be pretty small. Check out some local hotels. Find a venue with a large open lounge area and a bar. The idea is to find with a lot of room to move around. It's impossible to mingle if everyone plants themselves in small groups.

Make sure the venue has minimal spots where only three or so people can fit. This is how to form a clique which is not the plan at the beginning of the evening. You should feel accomplished if one person finds someone else who can fix a problem with their business.

Ask the manager of the hotel for the best rates they can give. Don't be discouraged if you first even isn't a slam packed one. Don't rent out an enormous room. A small room is best for a small group. It will encourage conversations among strangers.

Invite five or six business contacts, and ask them to bring a guest. This can be a card, a letter, an email, or a phone call. Figure out the communication method best for your guest. So that you can plan the venue, ask for an RSVP. Tell everyone to bring extra business cards. And make sure, that as they enter, you get a copy for yourself. It is your job as the host to introduce everyone.

Invitations usually get spread by word of mouth. Bringing friends is recommended.
