School Safety Measures For Kids

Kids are the most affectionate humans in the earth

. They love it when people pamper them; they feel secure in their parents arms. Even a new born baby develops a sense of security. When the baby feels something unusual around it, the baby starts crying just to make the parents aware of the situation. As parents we always want our children to lead a healthy life under secured circumstances. A man or a woman becomes more conscious after they become parents. I still remember that when my younger sister started to walk, my grandpa covered the whole pond area of our house with fences so that we both could play safely in the yard. When we start crawling or walking, our parents keep away all sharp objects from our reach so that we can stay safe. When a child takes admission to a school, the parents anxiety mounts. Every year, thousands of children face accidents inside the schools due to many reasons. Back-to-school does not have to mean back-to-worrying. Though safety inside school is ultimately the responsibility of the principal and school staff, parents can take a few basic steps to ensure a safe school experience. These can be stated as follows:

Before admitting a child to a particular school, parents need to research well on schools emergency procedures. The emergency instructions are mentioned in the school handbook. By giving few minutes to read them and making children aware of how to handle an emergency situation we can offer the children the confidence to act quickly in such circumstances.

The second most important thing is to know the travel routes of the child. The parents and the child both should be acquainted well with the primary and the alternate routes. In an emergency, roads can be blocked and it's important to have a backup plan.

Knowing the school security measures isnt enough. We need to follow those measures as well. These might include signing in when visiting the school, being escorted when walking through the building, or wearing a visitor pass. It is the prime responsibility of the parents to be a role model in teaching kids safety measures.

We can play simple games that can increase their consciousness towards safety means. As children learn the best when anything is presented before them in an interesting manner. So play is the best way to teaching such measures

Parents also can have discussions with the school authorities if their children are facing any unusual circumstances in the school premises. Having such discussions also help the school authorities to avoid any emergency situation.

The modern day school also develops a number of means to deal with any unwanted situation. Physical security is one component, but not the bulk of a professional school safety assessment. The placing of the CCTV cameras in different areas of the school premise helps the administration to maintain a healthy environment in the school. Exposure to various hazards, inadequacies in the structure and lack of preparedness measures can have disastrous consequence in the event of a disaster.
