Scottsdale Artificial Grass: Advantages And Disadvantages
Artificial grass has become very popular in many commercial spaces dui to its benefits overriding those of natural grass
. It is made up of synthetic material with uncanny resemblance to the real grass sharing a similar color, texture and feel. It is widely used these days in sports arenas. It is highly preferred in areas that face water deficiency thus heightening the restrictions on the use of water. Natural lawns demand a regular water requirement to keep it alive. On the contrary, synthetic lawns have no such prerequisites.
Synthetic lawns may require a comparatively higher initial investment but its performance is long lived and needs very little maintenance. Apart from water there are other expenses in the form of pesticides, fertilizers, other chemicals and lawn mowers that are incurred on the subsistence of naturally occurring grass. These not only burn a hole in your wallet but also cause health and environmental hazards. All these adverse effects are taken care of with the use of synthetic lawns that require none of these. Synthetic lawns are untouched by harsh weather conditions or extreme climates. Also pests do not infect it nor does it give away offensive odors due to leaf decay. However, just like any other materials of use, artificial grass also has its share of both advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages are unlike natural grasses; artificial turf does not require sunlight or adequate rain to sustain its survival. Natural grasses require appropriate environmental conditions to remain viable, lush and green. Hostile climatic condition can damage natural grass while the artificial grass is unaffected. Also, in places where the ground is used often for sports and other activities, there is bound to be a lot of wear and tear. The tolerance of such physical depreciation is shown to be way too high in artificial lawns than in natural ones. Natural lawns cannot withstand regular practices of physical strain in the form of sport activities that occur all the time. Thus a lot of money is spent to maintain a vast coverage area of a sports field composed of natural grass. All the time and money invested on natural grass is nullified with the use of artificial grass.
Another key advantage is that artificial lawns are ideal for all kind of domestic residence especially holiday homes that cannot be supervised or maintained efficiently by the homeowners. It is also ideal to be used in residential area reserved for the elderly population who cannot exert themselves physically with the maintenance of a lawn. Also, it is suitable for roof gardens and to beautify the surroundings of a body of water like a swimming pool, where you do not want the mess of real grass.
Lastly, some artificial grasses can incorporate fiber optic fibers amongst the synthetic grass strands. This may be useful for lighting purposes or for advertisements that are to be lodged directly on to a playing surface. Runway lightings can also be fitted in artificial landing surfaces for aircrafts.
Although it sounds wonderful there are still some things to consider. Sometimes these manmade grasses can be infected by Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) thus causing abrasion injuries in the event of coming in contact with the ground. This has recently been taken into consideration and acted upon by artificial grass manufacturers. They have started using polyethylene yarn in the turf to make it less abrasive. Some of these artificial grasses require infill with silicon sand or granulated rubber made from recycled car tires. This material can carry heavy metals, which can leach into the water table.
Although infections by microorganisms on artificial turfs are less likely to occur there is a requirement for periodic disinfection of the artificial turf since pathogens cannot be broken down by natural processes. Another thing to consider is that artificial turf is known to absorb considerable amounts of heat when exposed to the sun unlike the natural grass.
Before purchasing artificial turf, research the product and read customer reviews. There are so many different brands to choose from with different benefits. Also, be sure that your turf comes with a warranty, to give you peace of mind. Find a local retailer to view a show room to see if synthetic lawns are right for you.
