. When I have my articles on my website this is how I go about ranking high in the search engines. You have SEO then you have traffic. Take a look at those two terms. When I think of traffic, I usually get involved with social media. A lot of the social media website will drive traffic to your website by not using any SEO terms.

I posted in link directories in the past, but I don't do that much anymore. I'll stick with the most popular ones, and then I'll just hope that I get traffic from them. I thought the directories would have a good impact on my traffic but it hasn't. So if you're doing the directory route, go for the ones that gear towards a niche.

There is software on the market that will help you find high ranking PR sites. So when I focus on my link building this tool is a must. I study the competition. Where are their links coming from? Now I'll go out and mimic the same thing.

I'll look at my keyword list and see which ones are competitive. Now I'll pick which ones I'll be going after. When you rank in the search engines it cost you your time and money. I'll take a look at that to see if the time is worth it. Then I'll go over to my website and see how it is set up and do some testing. This is the way I'll find out which of the keywords work best for me. If you take the time to implement a good plan, you'll do well.

Go for the longer tailed keywords first. Try and rank well with them. Every little bit helps when you're finished with your project.

I do exactly what the competition is doing. It's pretty hard to find out, but there are pieces of software out there now that will help you with this task. Now I'll link from the same places they are linking from. Sometimes it has to do with people. So I try and become friends with the same people they are friends with and see about doing some kind of joint venture.

I've seen the competition setting up a bunch of web sites that help their ranking. They use some sort of Web 2.0 properties to rank higher. Now you can see how much work you will be in for to out rank them. When my research is done, I'll see that I'll need x amount of links to gain their top stop and go after it.

I prefer article marketing. I don't submit my articles to all of the article directories. I'll just pick the top ones and work with those. Articles are easy and fun and they help you out with your high rankings.
