Pre seasoned logs are available, but because the seasoning process takes a relatively long time, the cost of these logs can be quite high when compared to standard timber. Purchasing these expensive pre seasoned logs is not going to be economical and this is the main reason behind seasoning your own logs.

So why don't you season logs yourself? Although it is a long process, it is very simple to do. All you will need is a good supply timber from a sustainable source and a dry, airy place to keep your logs.

A log store is the perfect place to season your logs. Log stores are made of timber, they are usually have three sides and a roof. The sides will have gaps in to let the air flow between the logs and therefore speed up the seasoning process. The solid roof is essential to keep the rain off your logs as they dry. Log stores are available in all shapes and sizes depending on your needs. Positioning a log store against a wall is the norm but any breezy spot around your property will do.

It is essential that you begin to get your seasoned logs ready for the cold weather in the summer months, this should allow enough time for the logs to dry and help you start to save money on your fuel bills.
