Secret Tips For Catfishing

Catfishing a fun sport and anyone from first time fishermen to professional anglers

can not resist a day on the lake going for these exciting fish to catch. Not only do people use the most basic of equipment to catch the cats, such as a cane pole and up to thousand dollar fishing poles, but some actually catch them with their hands. This technique is called noodling and is not for the faint of heart by any means. With all the different way there are to go catfishing, people are always looking for some tips on this topic.

The following are five tips on catfishing including noodling for those who wish to learn more about it:

Noodling - It is important to understand that a great many people absolutely love this technique for catching the really big cats. Noodling, or grabbling is only legal in certain states so make sure that your state actually allows for this type of catfishing before you go out and attempt it. Those who have never tried this are going to appreciate these tips.

First, the only time for noodling is when the females are spawning. Once they lay their eggs, the males are going to do the rest of the work. This is the prime to catch either the males or the females.

Noodlers use a big stick to poke in the holes of the nests of the catfish. Once they find one with the stick, they use their hands along with the stick to guide the huge cats up to the surface of the water where they then catch them with their hands. Many times people are bit using this technique. The history of this practice goes back to the natives who used it to feed their families. Now, many of the large cats are released after being noodled.

Using Proper Baits - It is important to use the correct bait for the type of catfish you are going to fish for. Stinky baits can be a good option for some cats while others are going to prefer live baits. Make sure you bring a few different bait types so if the cats are refusing one type of bait; you have another that you can offer them. Keep in mind the season and what the catfish would normally be partial to or what is part of their natural diet during that season. These baits are going to work much better than using something they would not normally be accustomed to eating.
