Security Alarm System Motion Detectors

Passive Infrared Motion Detectors- These detectors are also known as PIR detectors

. The technology they utilize is "passive infrared". The device is affixed to any wall, in any room of your house. It emanates undetectable fingers out into the nearby area in a few layers. The top layer goes the furthest and can be around 60 feet straight ahead and 35 feet on both sides.

The center layer of beams spreads the area about mid way and the last layer sweeps the room right near the detector. These beams independently measure the infrared temperature of any object they reach and wait for a discrepancy of temperature against that point. For example if a beam reaches a chairand detects what temperature it is, when you pass by, your temperature is calculated as differing with the object

It would be quite difficult for you to change your temperature to match all the different objects in your home, which makes these motion detectors difficult to evade.

PIR motion detectors are equipped with a microchip in them that will adjust the device for typical temperature modifications. This way when your room gets warmer or colder during an armed alarm time, you not have to worry about receiving a false alarm.

Some motion detectors are intended to be placed in the ceiling and spread a 360-degree cone outwards. Some are placed right in the wall to imitate an electric outlet, and some other features are obtainable for the James Bond like clients. Mainly, the apparatus is a nice looking, small system that is mounted 5-7 feet high in the corner of your room.

These motion detectors can not see through walls or windows, since they will deem touching anything as the point where it begins measuring the temperature. The beams project in a straight line only and can't turn around corners. If your apparatus is placed where a beam can go into an area with an opened door, it will protect the interior of that section of the house also. If the door is closed, the beam will end on that door.

Motion detectors cannot guard every square inch of your home or business unless you invest in a lot of them to accomplish that. Instead you should cleverly position them as an interior security in an area or areas most likely to be violated by the perpetrators that want to pilfer your things or worst off violate you personally. Usually, one placed accurately on the ground floor and one on the lower level if you can, will act as effective traps. Stairways are usually a good thing to think about when positioning the device, as this will thwart unauthorized passage between floors.

An alarm installer should always set up a device somewhere it will best serve the user and achieve the most coverage. Many an installer has elected to ignore this notion so that they can install the device in an area that is easier to get to with the wires. It's a good idea to review the best spots to place all of the monitors before the tech starts installing them. You can bet that your interests will be more of a concern to them when they see your involvement in the set up process.

Dual Technology PIR- Dual means two technologies are used in one device. Both technologies must be violated to cause an alarm. These devices are used in harsh areas where the temperature could be extremely hot or cold.

The first technology is passive infrared and works as explained above. The second technology is normally Doppler and looks for the concealed motion of air. When you enter into a room, the air must shift as your body mass goes into the room. The rationale for why you should consider a dual technology system is simple when you think logically about the desired area of protection. For instance, let's say you drive your car in to a cool garage, go in the house and activate your alarm for the night. Your motion detector that you installed in your garage will see a dramatic increase in temperature as the heat from your engine spreads out into the cold air. For a duel technology motion detector it would not see the air moving because your car is still, so it will refuse to go into an alarm condition.

Pet Immune Motion detector- This is a wonderful advancement in motion detection that may work for you if your pet free- roams your house while you are away and have your motion detectors on. Earlier than the creation of this technology, the pet owner had to either lock up their pets from the alarmed area or deactivate the motion detector rendering it worthless unless the pet was out of the home with them. The technology is the same as the regular passive infrared detectors. The pet immune type of motion detector sends out two sets of beams, on different planes. Your pet must hit two pre- assigned beams simultaneously in order to violate the detector. For pets less than 85 pounds, this type of alarm works well, since they are small enough that they are not likely to trigger two beams simultaneously. A human being is designed much differently as per a weight to length ratio causing them to violate either a horizontal or vertical pair of beams, depending on their chosen burglarizing position.

With the pet immune detectors the mid and lower span of beams are pet immune but the upper layer is not, because of the area between the farthest-reaching beams. This needs to be kept in mind for the positioning of these devices confining the upper beams from stairways and high ledges your cat may jump up on. This could be anywhere from 6 to 7 feet in height A good technician will cover just the beams that reach these trouble locations increasing your coverage options.

Remember that even though your device is technically designed for use by the size of your pet, two or more small animals will be able to touch the two correct beams while playing with each other. I do not advocate that you get these devices with two or more pets no matter how tiny they are, apart from if one of them is hardly ever moving about.

As well, one free flying bird will look like a dinosaur walked through the room if it gets next to to the detector. (They have yet to design the "Dinosaur Immune Detector")

But, if the pets you have do not fall into the guidelines for using a pet immune motion detector then you may want to think about other alternatives for constructing interior traps. A properly positioned system protects the outer area of your home as well as possible and constructs interior traps if the outer security shell circumvented.
