Nevertheless, it can sometimes be impossible to find a free or inexpensive venuein proximityto the centre of your city. 2. Your venue should have conditions that are suitable for playing backgammon
By "suitable", I mean:
a) The lights should be bright enoughto play backgammon. So, don't choose a dimly lit pub.
b) You don't want anoisy venue where, for example, there is a loud jukebox or a live singer. Thiscan be distracting when you are trying to think,for exampleif you are trying to do a pip count.
c) You should have big enough tables at the venue on which you can placeboth abackgammon board and a drink.
d) Theheating at the venueshould be reasonable for abackgammon meetup.
3.Costs for food and beverages need to be reasonable as does the quality
In Edinburgh,backgammon groups usually meetup forseveral hours. This is probably the casein other parts of Scotland and outside Scotland as well. Consequently,backgammon players frequently buyfood andmore than one drink. If the costs for this are toohigh, players may be reluctant to attend the meetup regularly.
