Self Beauty Guide: How to Give Yourself a Refreshing Pedicure at Home

Just like the nails on your hand, the nails on your feet also

, if not more, need to be taken care and given some tender loving care. Why not give yourself and your toes a nice pedicure at home?

In this article I'm going to explain in 7 simple steps how this can be done.

Below are the 7 steps to follow for a easy to do at home pedicure.

1. Get rid of the old nail polish - Using a cotton ball remove old nail polish completely. If our having a hard time getting the color to come off then press the cotton on to the nail and let it soak for a while.

2. Trimming and Cutting - Cut or trim the nails using a good high quality nail cutter. Keep the nails straight and do not cut into the corners as this can cause ingrown nails, and you dont want that. Do not let your nails extend over the tips of your toes.

3. Shape and file - Use a good nail file to shape the nails, stay away from metal ones which normally rip the nails and are very harsh on them instead use an emery board. The courser side is for shortening and the smoother side is for shaping them. You ideally want a soft not to square shape.

4. Soaking - Fill a basin with warm water, add bath salts. The rougher your feet are the longer you should let them soak for also you can add a cup of milk to the water as the lactic acid in the milk helps to loosen the dead skin.

5. Cuticle care - Apply cuticle cream to the nails then using a cuticle stick to push back the skin to where it meets the nail. Use cuticle nippers to trim the loose skin making sure not to cut yourself.

6. Rough skin - Using a pumice stone, scrub the dead skin on the balls and heels of your feet, you ideally want to smooth not remove the skin. If your skin is turning red then stop scrubbing. Dry your feet and add a little cuticle oil to the nail to nourish it.

7. Varnish - Apply a bit of nail varnish remover to the nail to remove all excess oil before you start to apply your base coat and colour, finish with a top coat then wait for nails to completely dry before wearing shoes.
