For anyone who's been the victim of a charging dog

, an attacking dog or dog bite you know how terrifying it can be. Well you you are not alone. Over 5 million of your fellow American are victims of dog bites every year. Those are the ones that we know of. There are millions more that go unreported. Close to 1 million of those people require hospitalization with nearly half of those being kids.

I guess it's really not that big of a percentage when you consider how many people walk, jog or ride their bicycles everyday. But it is a big enough figure to make it the biggest concern of the customers for my business. I get more telephone calls and e-mails about this than any other subject.

My friends and I formed the "rolling thunder walking club" and walk every day, rain or shine-we have been attacked twice. So I don't have much sympathy for dog owners who fail to follow leash laws and or dogs who are out and about with out any supervision.

The telescopic stun baton is the product I used to carry to protect our group and in fact it saved us on those two occasions, but anymore, I find the best defense against an attacking dog is the Mace pepper gun.

Not only is it good against an attacking dog with four legs but two legs also. It carries enough OC spray (oleoresin capsicum), to fire off seven 25 foot shots. In case you happen to miss with the first one you have six more as backup. Or you can use it to fend off multiple attackers.

It uses the full strength 10 percent concentration of OC, which is approximately 5 times stronger than a regular dog pepper spray.

It is the only self-defense product that comes with a way of practicing it without using up product by using a test water cartridge. So you can practice getting used to the range of 25 feet. All in all this is the best self defense against an attacking dog.

When are you getting one?

A 10 percent solution of OC spray is illegal in some jurisdictions. So check the internet or your local sheriff's department first before getting some.

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The "other guy" is thinking the same thing and to him you are that "other guy". There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!
