Self Learning And Guided Learning
Many people think that, in this age of high technology and facilities
, there is no need to undertake training at training institutes. They think they can educate and train themselves from books and online stuffs. The cost and time constraints involved in training programs at institutes make them to think of self learning.
One boy, I know, belonging to a middle class family wanted to learn PHP on his own. His parents were in a position to afford him PHP course training. He didn"t want to attend
PHP training class or institute. He had a PC and internet connection at home. Thus, he wanted to learn PHP by surfing different sites on internet.
He didn"t have any prior information on PHP. He was keen to learn. He also bought a book on PHP for his assistance. He use to refer different sites and worked hard to learn this new programming language. He also read the book thoroughly. But somehow he was not happy with the result. He had many doubts and confusion in lessons of PHP. The knowledge he gained from his self study was half knowledge. And he was desperate to clear his concepts.
Two months later I happened to meet him. He was completely frustrated and confused. I asked him the reason for his disappointment. He narrated his dilemma. I understood what his problem was. I inquired whether he knows the reason behind his problem. He said he knew his problem. I further questioned him to know the answer. His reply was that he still needs to work hard, read the books thoroughly again, refer all the good websites again without wasting time. I smiled at him and said that his problem is he is not aware of his problem.
I took him at ease and made him relaxed. I gently discussed about his problems and the solutions for it. I explained that his first mistake was not attending a PHP training institute. He should have taken guidance of someone before taking any decision. Self learning is time consuming and tedious. It is always advisable to have a guided learning system. Tutors involved in teaching process have a lot of experience. They have had traversed through many critical conditions and concepts. Thus understand the problems that can arise while dealing with some concepts. Moreover they also have knowledge of new updates. This leads to systematic, time bound and perfect completion of course with great understanding and no hassle. When a person tries to learn something new, he has to put in extra efforts and time to learn. It would be trial and error method. But when he is guided by someone it becomes more easy and less time consuming to learn new things. This boy was puzzled. He didn"t know from where to start. His book had a different course pattern while the website he referred to had a different course structure and teaching pattern. He was carried away by all these things to big perplexing situation. Hence it is very much necessary to undergo
PHP course training because it helps not to get wayward from our aim to learn PHP thoroughly.
Self learning is good but do not avoid guided learning as far as possible. Self learning should be done as it makes us self sufficient. Self learning combined with guided learning can give great results.
