Sell More In Your Shop

It is interesting to consider how many retailers do not think about how they pitch their products to the public

. Many people who start their own retail business buy an existing shop. Here, included within the purchase price, will be stock, fixtures and shop fittings. Others find a product that they would like to sell, find some premises and start from scratch buying in stock and sorting out new shop fittings, tills and all the essentials needed to set up business. However, neither is likely to sit down and take a hard look at how they are going to sell their products rather than what they are going to sell.

There is often an assumption in retail that people just walk through the door and buy whatever is in the shop. However, most buyers are not acting randomly when they go shopping; they are looking for something specific. In this scenario the customer comes into the shop with a fixed idea of what they want, they find it, bring it to the counter, pay for it and walk out with it in a carrier bag. However, while they are in your shop you have an opportunity to sell more than one thing to that one customer; clever retailers always make sure that they have shop fittings near the counter with small cheap items that invite an impulse buy that brings in additional revenue. You can make sure the items that your customers are most likely to want are not just inside the door. This way there is a chance to catch their eye with other strategically displayed items and thus increase the chances of an impulse purchase.
