AH! MAKARANGA!!

A brief background: -

The original owners of the Lodge, Dana and Chic developed it for the express purpose of providing a fully functional 5-star accommodation establishment for physically challenged guests and the detail that went into the architecture plus the eventual construction shows just how much consideration and thought went into the developing of this magnificent venue with that objective in mind.

It was by no means intended to become a busy meeting venue but as soon as the proprietors discovered that there was such an enormous demand for a centre that's thoroughly wheel-chair friendly within the corporate business world, it became obvious that they ought to open their doors to the corporates on the market, countless of which have conference attendees with unique needs.

Because the lack of these facilities nationally, corporate businesses were delighted as soon as they were invited in! And so it continues but on a bigger scale now without having lost any of its authentic charm. It's still small enough to be intimate and exclusive.

The property with its indigenous and exotic botanical gardens had been a personal home previous to the present-day owners' purchase of it and was usually featured in South Africas primary, glossy Garden and Home magazines as the Garden of the Year.

In the earlier times of the original Makaranga Garden Lodge, it offered a modest Boardroom and about half the rooms it has currently. This venue grew to become so sought after, and so preferred that the owners extended it into what it is now. A magnificent venue delivering 5-star standards and amenities in each area, at reasonably priced prices, situated in the center of the residential area of Kloof.

Set within this magical, enchanting, fairy garden, designed in part as a Japanese Park, the likes of which I have never experienced, it is a mere 15-20 minutes drive from Durban and 30 mins from Pietermaritzburg, thus equi-distant and the perfect half way meeting place for conference delegates and businessmen and ladies between both cities, providing plenty of safe parking.

Makaranga Garden Lodge, a hotel, wedding venue, restaurant and conference centre, is nothing like anywhere else in South Africa.

Occupying the 30 Acres of indigenous and exotic gardens, are 18 ponds, lazy streams and a waterfall all of which are there for your peace, tranquillity and sheer visual indulgence. The hotel or Lodge offers 5-star state-of-the-art conference facilities, a Spa, a restaurant and 20 spacious, luxury rooms, all with magnificent views over the property.

A perfect venue for Team building, with so much space in this perfect, peaceful setting, including Yoga, Tai Chi and other Eastern arts.

Children, young and old, will delight in the natural play areas and the enchanted garden. For a true respite or soul searching, there is also a 1Km long labyrinth set in a quiet corner of the gardens.

Guests may choose-your-own picnic basket from THE DELI, and picnic in the Japanese park or indulge in an a-la-carte menu at the esteemed NONNA restaurant. The LIBRARY BAR is a cosy and home-from-home luxury lounge offering scrabble, or allowing you to catch up with friends over a coffee or watch sport from around the world while sharing one of their personally selected bottles of wine.
