Sending Demos to Record Labels - 10 Amazing Tips Right Here!

In this article I want to go into everything you need to know when you first start Sending Demos to Record Labels

. You will also find a link to my Record Label Directory at the bottom of the page so you can start using the tips straight away.

Even though most of us are do it yourself' musicians these days there is still a lot to be gained from getting a record deal in terms of marketing and contacts. But you must always remember that once you have a deal there are no guarantees that you will have success...and if anything you will need to work even harder!

So with that in mind I have created a simple check list for you to use when Sending Demos to Record Labels:

1. Put full contact details on the CDR in case your information sheet is lost.

2. Make sure that your music is original but current and it's a good idea to put your best song first on the demo.

3. Even if you are a bedroom DJ make sure you play out live because a label won't want to sign you if they can't make money from your live shows as well.

4. Test your demo against chart music and make sure it sounds just as good. If you recorded it poorly it will go in the bin.

5. Only send in your best three songs.

6. Don't send in a video instead of a CD, you will have more chance of going in the bin if you do.

7. Only send in a demo if it has been requested by the record companies.

8. Make sure the label is signing your kind of music.

9. Don't send in your demo if your drummer sucks or you bass player can't keep time. You need to make sure everything is in place before getting a deal.

10. Be honest - Is your music really good enough to sell hundreds of thousand of copies? If not don't cry about it, just work until it is and then send in your demo.

Final thoughts.

If you just follow these simple rules you will have a much better chance of impressing the label.

Don't forget that you can find a full updated Record Label Directory below.

Good luck.
